This is a good introductory book on both the theology and the
practice of intercessory prayer. I would recommend it to anyone
who is interesting in strengthening their prayer life. I found
myself in disagreement with theological points from time to time
in the book, but not in the practice.
This book is provided with plentiful scripture references and
notes, with lots of illustrative experiences, and is presented
with a sense of humor. It is also refreshing in that it does not
attack those who differ in their prayer theology and practice.
Rev. Sheets goes out of his way to use neutral terminology in
many cases. Those who don't believe that prayer has any
particular power will, of course, not find it very interesting.
But I think that those who even believe that prayer can have a
transforming effect on the praying individual will find something
of interest here. Perhaps you will even find yourself challenged
to stretch out just a little more and try something new!
I found this a fast, easy and enjoyable read. If your
acquaintance with the scriptures is limited you may want to have
a Bible at hand to look up scriptures which are only referenced
in the text. Most of the scriptures are printed in full from the
New American Standard Bible, though several other versions are
used occasionally.
